On Thursday, August 8th, Fruitland Baptist Bible College was serving at a local elementary school during their back-to-school bash. Fruitland students and staff had been helping give out school supplies to families, serve popcorn and tacos, and prayed with families.
Troy and Eden, two of Fruitland’s students, were serving at one of the school supplies tables in which they had Bibles, in English and Spanish, and other resources to give people as they came by.
Earlier in the day, a youth came up to Troy and Eden to ask if they needed help with anything. This youth was there volunteering for the back-to-school bash. Troy and Eden replied that they were good for the moment, and the youth told them he would come back later.
Later in the day, the youth came back and asked Troy and Eden how they were doing. The three started a conversation, and Troy asked him about his school and life. This youth was a junior in high school. Troy asked where he went to church, and the youth replied back that he was raised Catholic. After hearing this, Troy started to share his testimony with the young man. When he was finished, he asked the young man whether he was saved or not. When the young man did not really have a reply, Eden asked him, “If you were to die tonight and stand before the Lord, what would you say?” Once again, the youth did not give a clear answer.
Troy and Eden began to share the gospel with this young man. When they had finished, the young man asked to receive the gospel. Troy and Eden prayed with him, and he received Christ. Troy told the youth, “This is all God. He has brought you here right now for this.”
When asking Troy later to recount this conversation, he said “I believe the Lord was preparing him for this conversation. He was ready to receive the gospel.”
After they prayed, the young man asked if he could have two Bibles: one to give his friend, and one to give his brother. Troy and Eden offered to disciple him as needed, since the young man lived locally.
One of Fruitland’s students later stated, “The whole day was worth it just for that one soul to be saved.”
“Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)
